the Protective Treatment

IL CEPPO has always protected its products with impregnation treatment in autoclaves.
The wood treatment is done inside a large hermetically sealed cylindrical container in three stages:
• Initial creation of a vacuum.
In this first stage the pressure is greatly reduced to remove all the air possible from within the wood cells.
• Pressurisation and mineralization.
After the vacuum stage, the cylindrical container is filled with an impregnating liquid under high pressure (about 12 bar) for a period depending on the characteristics of the liquid and the cross section of the wood to be treated.
• Final vacuum stage and draining.
This last stage requires the creation of another vacuum to remove the excess liquid from the wood. The entire protective treatment process, which is completely automatic, is done under the direct control of the computer of the data processing centre which, for each load, produces a report in which all the stages of the process are recorded.
These reports, which are duly filed away, make it possible to verify compliance with RAL instructions at a much later date.

 

the Impregnation Salts

The impregnation salts used by the companies recognised by the RAL consortium, are exclusively those certified by the Institute of Building Technology of Berlin (DIBt). IL CEPPO, in accordance with its precise undertaking regarding protection of the environment, has gone way beyond the traditional treatments by using only the environment-friendly recognised salts, completely chromium and arsenic-free. The protection given by impregnation of salts under pressure is a process of adjustment and adaptation of the wood’s properties for its new functions. A wood with very compact fibre (grown naturally in very cold areas) will allow a not so much deep impregnation compared to what is required by a wood with wide fibre: it is clear, however, that the protective effect is the same against the aggressive action of atmospheric agents, micro-organisms and insects.
